TVA Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Supporting Manufacturing with Reliable Energy

North Hamilton Council in collaboration with Chattanooga Regional Manufacturing Association will again host a MFGDay event in October.

Manufacturing Day (MFGDay) addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t.  Chattanooga was nicknamed Dynamo of Dixie due to the wealth created by manufacturing in late nineteenth century.  Today manufacturing still support the regional economy.  As our region recruit more manufacturers, reliable energy source is an important qualifier.  TVA Economic Development serves the seven states that make up the TVA service area—almost all of Tennessee and parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. TVA has been named by site selection magazine among the top 10 utilities for economic development. Here locally, Sequoyah Nuclear Plant has provided low cost and reliable energy since 1981.  The plant supports the local community with Partners in Education, Sequoyah Spirit Fund and community/education outreach.

Matthew Rasmussen, Site Vice President at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, will explain how the two units produce 1,160 megawatts each, supplying power to 1.3 million homes and industrial customers each day.  Mr. Rasmussen has over 17 years of nuclear operation and management experience at TVA, both at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant and Sequoyah. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University.

Cost: $10 per person
