The Chattanooga Engineers Club regular monthly meeting at noon on Monday, Aug 12 will feature Ezra Reynolds speaking on his work in the Assistive Technology program at Signal Centers.
Assistive Technology is any device that helps a person with a disability be more independent – at school, at work, or at home. This could be low-tech (colored plastic, cardboard, etc.) or high-tech (computers, iPads, video magnifiers…). Assistive Technology Services (a division of Signal Centers, Inc., a local 501(c)3 nonprofit) helps people who have disabilities (of any age, or any disability) determine which device or technology will best meet their needs. Often these needs are not met by existing, off the shelf devices. In these cases, Signal attempts to manufacture custom devices or adapt existing equipment to fit the needs of the individual.
They will bring a variety of devices, both commercially produced and custom-designed that help people, tell a little bit about each device, and pass it out through the audience so that people can have hands-on experience with these life-altering technologies.
PARK in Lot 17 south of the CETAS building, but enter on the east side toward the center of campus.
LUNCH is available from the CETAS cafeteria down the hall from the meeting room. (Allow a few minutes ahead of noon if you plan to pick up lunch.)
One PDH may be awarded by email following the meeting to those members who request it on the sign-in sheet.
